Natural tailings ponds, which have no protective watertight screens, are the main threat to environmental pollution. 22.08.2011
Air environment In the air of this area, the content of the main dose-forming radionuclides Ra226 exceeds the acceptable doze more than twofold. Besides, outside the sanitary-hygienic zone, dust and gas emissions of existing facilities of Eastern Mining Processing Plant cause increased Th230 content in the air when there are critical wind speeds (up to 9m/s). 22.08.2011
In 1948, the PO Prydneprovskiy Chemical Plant (initial name - Slag Fertilizers Plant) started production of uranium salts out of slag obtained during uranium and iron bearing ores melting in the blast-furnace No 6 of the metallurgical plant named after Dzerzhinskiy. 22.08.2011
The Eastern Mining Processing Plant has been operating beginning from the fiftieth of the last century. Its capacities (mines, plants, laboratories, pilot factories, tailings ponds) are located in the territory of Zhovti Vody city and its suburbs. In the eightieth certain production capacities of the Eastern Mining Processing Plant were constructed in Kirovograd region. 22.08.2011

Mr. President! To live, a man needs food, air and water. Fortunately, the Ukrainians have bread and some fresh air, but there is no drinking water left for more than 35 million of Ukrainian citizens. Our fellow citizens drink poisoned water. 01.08.2011
Drinking and domestic water out of water taps, pump-rooms, wells located in the city is importable and unusable. Water is polluted by organochlorine contaminants, oil products, surfactants, etc. During summer time it is polluted by dioxins caused by the blue-green blanket degradation. On boiling, water toxicity is increasing significantly; in some cases dioxins are generated. 25.07.2011
This April, the activists of the Social movement “For the right of citizens to environmental safety” performed a large amount of work evaluating quality of drinking water piped through a tap in Ukrainian cities and towns. They collected more than 200 water samples and conducted a study on 27 indicators to characterize quality in a specialized certified laboratory. 25.07.2011
When talking about radiation in Ukraine, I recall the accident at the Chernobyl Atomic Electric Power Station in 1986. Nobody is aware of what is happening in Dnepropetrovsk region, where deposits of uranium and uranium bearing ores are concentrated, mining and processing thereof is carried out, 12 tailing pounds of radioactive waste are located, metallurgical, coke-chemical, chemical enterprises and thermal power stations are concentrated. 25.07.2011
Today, every citizen of Ukraine should know that the environmental situation in the country is more that unfavorable for full and healthy life. It depends on us to a large extent, whether the situation will change or not. Shall we be irresponsive as we were before and, thus, dying nationally, or shall we ask relevant questions to the government and require not only answering them, but also acting vigorously in order to eliminate the problems harming our life. Let’s take Dnepropetrovsk as an example and trace the way environmental issues are sold at a local level. 21.07.2011
The problem of man-made pollution and environmental degradation in the country is increasingly affecting the health of the Ukrainians. Our interview with Vladimir GONCHARENKO, the chairman of the Social movement of Ukraine “For the right of citizens to environmental safety” highlights the measures to be taken by the new government in public policy to change the current situation. 21.07.2011

Today in Ukraine nobody knows exactly and cannot know the truth about the quality of natural environment as there is no material, technical and professional facilities to monitor thereof. 15.07.2011
Ukraine has once again survived in the whirlpool of the presidential election, without having heard the most important of the usual promises to improve the economy – the guarantees of health and long life of the Ukrainians. Representing the interests of movers and shakers of the country, all candidates had scruples about raising the environmental issue on which it directly depends. 15.07.2011
Almost 2,5 million tons of extremely hazardous wastes are produced annually in Ukraine. Recovered and destructed ones do not exceed 10%. Out of the 280 specialized companies licensed to manage hazardous wastes, only about 230 ones have an office and bank account at their disposal. In fact, hazardous wastes are collected and stored only on paper. 15.07.2011
